How do I know what type of gold, platinum or silver I have?

Although pure gold is 24 carat and many countries use pure gold, (or close to it with 22ct for their jewellery) the Australian market usually prefers the look of gold mixed with alloys.

The Australian industry is highly regulated which means that your jewellery, whether it is gold, silver or platinum, should have a stamp mark indicating the gold content.

However, it is no problem if your jewellery is not stamped as we can test it for you and confirm the gold content.

As a rough guide;

Stamped: What it is

9ct, 9k, 375:  9ct gold

10ct, 10k, 416:  10ct gold

14ct, 14k, 585:  14ct gold

18ct, 18k, 750:  18ct gold

Carat gold quite often will not have a stamp mark.

We can test this jewellery:
